Ynt: Earthquake in TurkeyFrom: Bulent Potur (bpotur@superonline.com)Sat Aug 21 05:56:45 1999
This simply is NOT true. Constitutionally there is no discrimination of sex, or what so ever. Turkey is one of the first countries which accepted the declaration of universal human rights. In Turkey women were allowed to vote for general elections in 1930s well before many western countries. No woman must cover her body. In fact in recent years many girls have been expelled from universities for THEIR OWN insistence to refuse to uncover their heads. Because these veiled minds had become a major threat as a medieval oriented bad examples of the educated people for the youth of a developping country working hard to become a secular modern republic. Unfortunately still they have wide popularity because of common corruption and common paranoia of corruption. There is also disguised western support. In Turkey women are educated, they do not have to cover their bodies, and they are not denied basic health care. But Turkey is a really too free country after all. So there are many private hospitals based on exploiting religious dogma or even basic human instincts so they employ only female preferably veiled gynecologists, pediatricians . I think what is ironic is that there are still some minds with medieval instincts which insist to attack Turkey even after such an heart-breaking immense disaster that claimed the lives of 40 000?(10 059 officially at this moment) people. Of course there is hope. Many expert rescuers from all over the world including US, Russia, UK, Germany, France, Denmark, Japan, and even Greece ran to aid the victims with mere humanitarian reason and love of humanity. I personally thank the sensitive listmates for their concern for the victims of the earthquake. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
