Re: Persistent hot flashes.From: Malcolm Griffiths (Malcolm@MGRIFF22.demon.co.uk)Thu Aug 19 12:45:41 1999
In message <199908180843.LAA09959@myra.cc.metu.edu.tr>, Dr. Fatih Demirtola <fmtola@metu.edu.tr> writes >Premarin does not decrease the level of FSH in menopause.Main reason that >FSH level increases after menopause is the stopage of inhibin production by >the ovaries . HRT can not lower the levels of FSH in menopause . I beg to differ! I would only measure oestradiol levels post-menopausally in a few patients having oestradiol implants. One routine assesses effectiveness of oestrogen HRT by a combination of symtoms and gonadotrophion levels. A suppressed gonadotrophin level suggests adequate HRT. Premarin is oestriol, oestradiol and oestrone, and assay for one of these doesn't reflect the level of oetrogen activity.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
