We shall continue the tradition of bringing together the most important innovative speakers in the field of Infections in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. They will cover new and novel approaches to the problems related to infections which confront us all. The congress will be truly a multidisciplinary effort, involving obstetricians, gynaecologits, infectious disease specialists, microbiologists, family practitioners and GPs. We will strengthen surveillance and develop new approaches to the investigation and terminations of the infections, and will strengthen the science surrounding self-care and traditional approaches to clinical management. ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS Call for Abstracts The scientific committee invites the submission of abstracts to be considered for presentation as a free communication , poster presentation or video presentation . Authors are requested to follow the accompanying instructions closely. All abstracts must be received by the secretariet no later than 1 September 1999. General Information Concerning Abstracts All abstracts will be refered in the absence of names and addresses of the authors . Authors are requested to indicate their preferance for oral and/or poster presentation on the abstract submission form. If no preferance indicated , the selection committee will decide which paper will be presented orally and which paper as a poster. The decision of the selection committee is final. All accepted abstracts and the index of authors will be published in an abstract book, ..a supplement issue of . . . Instructions for Abstracts Abstracts must be written in English. The title of the abstract and the following Introduction should be informative and short. The content of the sections Materials and Methods , Results, and Conclusion should provide sufficient information for the selection committee to judge the paper. Abbreviations may be used after defining them first. Typing Instructions for Abstracts Start with the title of the paper. Skip a line and list the authors with surname first, followed by initials (with punctuation). Do not add Prof., Dr, etc. The first author is the presenting author. If the authors come from more than one institution , each author and institution should be identified by anumber in superscript. Skip one line between address and text. Type the text single-spaced . The text should not reach outside the marigins indicated on the abstract form. The abstract should be printed no more than 12 charecters Per inch. Use pitch 12. Use a laser printer or an electric typewriter ( with fresh black ribbon) . . Anything which can not be typed may be entered by hand in black ink ( a black ball-point will do , a pencil will not) .Corrections by correcting fluid or correcting tape are allowed. As the scientific programme will be conducted on a very tight time schedule , speakers are asked to strictly adhere to the time given. All meeting rooms will be equipped with slide projectors for single projection or double projection. Overhead projectors and pointers will be available. Slides must be 50x50 mm with an image window of 24x36 mm in plastic or metal mounts and protected by glass. All slides must bear a serial number and identification of the correct direction of insertion. Slides must be submitted at least 60 minutes before presentation to the slide desk in the slide preview room. POSTER PRESENTATIONS Posters offer an excellent way of presenting detailed scientific data to an interested audience. It is well accepted nowadays that poster presentations in many instances are super,ior to oral communications at scientific meetings. We always encouraged this way of communication and urges authors to be avaiiilable for discussions at their posters as often as possible, but certainly during the daily lunch time poster viewing. All posters will be on display throughout the meeting in a special poster area of the Congress Centre. Instructions for Posters Poster boards are available for selected posters . Posters should include the title of the presentation , the authors names, the name of the institution, the city and the country. Lettering for the title banner should be at least 25 mm in height , and sor text at least 10 mm in height . Line printer output or Polaroid size photographs as poster units should not be used. Thereafter guests will have a visit to Sultanahmet Mosque, also called Blue Mosque. It is the most famous monument in both the Turkish and Islamic worlds and the only mosque built with six minarets. Only a short walk away, stands the magnificent Hagia Sophia built by Constantine the Great and considered a masterpiece of Byzantine art. Its first construction dates back to the second half of the 4th century. Hagia Sophia served 916 years as a church and 477 years as a mosque; on Ataturk's' orders it was turned into a museum. Thereafter visit the Topkapi Palace, overlooking the Istanbul Bogazici and the Golden Horn, the Topkapi Palace was the residence of the OTTOMAN Sultans for several centuries. Before return to the hotel, visit Grand Covered Bazaar. 2 - CRUISE BETWEEN TWO CONTINENTS (full day cruise) Before the cruise visit the spice Bazaar and thereafter cruise by excursion yacht along the Bosphorus up to Beykoz (a small part of the city on the Asian shore). This cruise starts from the Golden Horn and then continues its zigzag course on the Bosphorus passed magnificent palaces, beautiful parks, old seaside mansions and impressive fortresses. The boat will also sail under the two bridges linking Asia and Europe before making its final stop at Beykoz pier. Before the lunch the guests will visit the Beylerbeyi Palace. This palace situated near the foot of the Bosphorus Bridge on the Asian Shore was an imperial mansion used during the summer and to accommodate visiting state dignitaries. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
