Behcet's disease and OC'sFrom: AYKAN YUCEL (aykany@isbank.net.tr)Mon Aug 2 11:31:38 1999
I have a patient of 35 yr old (G4P2) suffering from Behçet’s disease. She’s taking colchicine for 4 years. Till two months ago, she have menstruated regularly. Her clinical and laboratory work-up and pelvic exam are completely normal. B-hCG(-). No history of recent stress. She seems to have been suffering from annovulatory cycles and also, colchicine may have had effects on her cycles. I’ll try prescribing MPA . Regarding contraception she refuses tubal sterilization, IUD and other barrier methods. Her husband refuses vasectomy. As I know, Behcet’s disease is not a contraindication for OC’s. But I could not find so much when I had a medline search except an article with no abstract “Behcet's disease. Alleviation of buccal and genital ulceration by an oral contraceptive agent. Br J Vener Dis. 1971 Feb;47(1):52-3. “ Does anybody have experience with Behcet’s disease and oral contraceptives? Yours sincerely, Aykan Yücel

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
