I don't treat or prep the area since you are already committed to operating in an infected field. Was taught not to stitch through the rectal mucosa but do a 2 layer 4-0 vicryl stitch. It was also emphasized to me to give approximation not necrosis, and to close any potential dead space especially after repair of the rectal mucosa and the sphincter. -- ############################################################################

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
