Re: Triscreen question - NTDsFrom: art fougner, md (evsono@pipeline.com)Fri May 14 19:49:06 1999
See Nadel et al - Absence of need for amniocentesis in patients with elevated levels of maternal serum alpha-fetoprotein and normal ultrasonographic examinations NEJM Aug 1990. in fact, ultrasound is a much better test than AFP for NTD, save for those patients who image poorly, thanks to our colleagues Nicolaides and Campbell who gave us the lemon and banana signs. The last spina bifida we encountered had a nl serum screen - her dates were off! Art "Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong." - Dennis Miller

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
