Ophthalmia prophylaxis - national standards

Hello,

back again I have a question regarding the neonatal ophthalmia prophylaxis in the various nations that are represented in the list:

Are there any obligations in your state to perform some kind of neonatal ophthalmia prophylaxis? Which kind of prophylaxis is specified? Do recommendations of the national colleges or societies of obs/gyn or ped exist and what do they say? Or otherwise, could you please give me an authorative or representative address (preferably email)?

In Germany since 1986 the official statutories (midwife law) no longer contain the obligation to perform the prophylaxis of Crede (at least in Northrhine-Westfalia). But in 1994 the national health institute following the results of an experts group issued the recommendation to provide some kind of neonatal ophthalmia prophylaxis, preferably Crede (AgNO3).

I would be very happy if you could help me with this information for my wife's thesis about certain aspects of the Crede prophylaxis.

Thank you very much and Ciao Ralf

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
