While the above is obviously true in fundamentals, the data out there support the fact that patients survive longer when they have oncologists debulking ovarian ca. Now other than the "well that data doesn't apply to -ME-, just to the other guys" response, I see a problem in not referring those cases (or at least offering a referral). Especially when many of these folks are going to die of the disease....

I must admit that I'm recently brainwashed by seeing referral patients in residency oncology program. But unless an individual can provide data that in -their- hands the survival is equal to the care provided by referral centers with trained subspecialists, I find it disturbing that generalists would not provide at least the objective option to a patient for referral for such a deadly disease.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
