That would be my position. Might one find a select group of generalists that can perform at the level of the subspecialist, yes of course, but the vast majority do not (thus the data that shows improper staging and decreased survival when ovarian cancer is staged by the generalist).

Now if you have onco folks around the institution then by all means dig in with the onco on-call, but for people like me who are 2 hours away from any such support, I offer the referral to anyone with a high index of suspicion preop for ovarian CA. I consider it a moral obligation given the data out there currently. Would I rather keep these folks and do the case myself, yeah I would.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
