Can somebody help me out? from Com Op Number 210, October 1998 Antenatal Corticosteroid Therapy for Fetal Maturation The Committee on Obstetric Practice supports the conclusions of the NIH consensus conference. The decision to administer corticosteroids may be based either on clinical circumstances likely to result in spontaneous preterm delivery within 7 days or complications likely to lead to a decision to perform preterm delivery within 7 days. Because of the possible adverse fetal effects and possible effects on maternal immune status of repeated, weekly courses of steroids, it seems reasonable to adopt a rescue approach to therapy in the treatment of preterm labor rather than a routine readministration regimen. Following the initial course of corticosteroids, repeated doses should be given only on an as-needed basis (ie, if the woman is re-treated for threatened preterm birth).

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
