Dear colisters,

Last week there was a scoop at the TV news in Montréal. Women will now have the benefit of hysterectomy completely laparoscopic in a one day surgery unit.

This was presented as an innovation.

In fact, a team from "Cité de la santé" hospital had made a serial of 85 subtotal hysterectomy since two years. The cervix stays intact and the corpus of the uterus is removed by a morcelator.

They argue that there are less blood loss and less infection.

But nothing is said about the remaining cervix.

What do you think about that?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
