Misoprostol (Cytotec) is an FDA-approved drug. Its approval is not for cervical ripening or labor induction. It's use in obstetrics and gynecology is "off-label". It would not be a bad idea for the patient to sign a brief consent form. However, consent forms are not signed by patients receiving off-label drugs i.e, terbutaline, indomethacin, etc. For CNMs, I would make sure the physician also sees the patient and writes a progress note.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
