A Word About ABOG Recertification Deadlines...

Something interesting happened to me that deserves a warning to others.

Last summer I signed up for ABOG recertification by the journal review method. Apparently there was a problem with my application, a missing signature. The ABOG sent a form back to me to sign and return to them. The form arrived on December 24, 1998, with a requiremnt that the signed form be physically returned to them "no later than January 4, 1999".

I completed the form, returned it, and verified today by telephone that they had received it and that my file was current.

The problem... the school (Southern Illinois University School of Medicine) closes down for the Christmas break. If the letter had come one day later, I would not have received it until January 4, after the Christmas break was over. However, the signed form was required to be received in the ABOG offices on that same day. An impossibility.

So... if anybody out there is applying for recertification and has not yet received confirmation that their ABOG forms and file are complete, it would be wise to give ABOG a call tomorrow to be sure everything is OK. Monday, January 4, might be too late.

Their phone number is (214) 871-1619 and their Web site is http://www.abog.org

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
