macrosomia

I am pleased to draw readers' attention to the following:

Sandmire HF, Woolley RJ. Macrosomia: Can we prevent big problems with big babies? Birth 1998 (#4, December); 25:263-7.

Basically, we spend about 3700 words challenging a single sentence that appeared in a letter to the editor in the green journal last year. (Yes, I believe in overkill. I swat flies with baseball bats.) Those authors (Gittens, Ganesh, and Iffy) claimed that for macrosomic babies, not only would routine c-section prevent brachial plexus injuries but it would also decrease perinatal morbidity and mortality. Herb and I assembled all the evidence we could find that refutes that assertion.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
