Help Lister-- I have a G2, P1 at 22 weeks who told me her son was diagnosed by their family physician with "hand, foot, and mouth" disease. She was concerned about possible effects on the fetus. Since I have never heard of this, I had no idea whether this is a viral or bacterial infection. I had the patient ask the family physician for the medical diagnosis. Is anyone familiar with this and any potential fetal effects? Thanks in advance. Lenora McCall, CNM

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
