Maternal floor infarction of the placenta

On a more serious note:

I am currently caring for a patient with a history of maternal floor infarction (this entity is not due to ischemic necrosis). In her previous pregnancy she delivered by emergency cesarean, a growth restricted infant with severe birth asphyxia. At 8 months of age the child suddenly deteriorated and died. He was diagnosed as having an inborn error of fatty oxidation (confirmed). Does anyone know of any possible connection of maternal floor infarction and the fatty oxidation disorder ? Are there any suggestions for the prevention of maternal floor infarcts (it is known to recur) ?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
