Re: antibiotics to prevent HIV transmissionFrom: Malcolm Griffiths (Malcolm@MGRIFF22.demon.co.uk)Tue Dec 15 15:20:03 1998
Sorry can't remember who but someone put comment up about article in Lancet which showed decreased risk of vertical transmission of HIV if treated with antibiotics in labour. The relevant article was a "hypothesis" article. Based on some prior work the authors were really wondering out loud whether antibiotics might prevent vertical transmission and suggesting that the topic should be researhced. They certainly didn't suggest that vertical transmission of HIV was preventable in this way! Malcolm Griffiths MD,MRCOG,MFFP,Cert.Mgmnt Obstetrician & Gynaecologist Luton & Dunstable Hosp.,UK. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
