Re: Gyn: OCPsFrom: Thomas Ind (100333.1216@compuserve.com)Thu Aug 27 05:11:12 1998
I think you have to weigh the the 6 fold risk of thrombo-embolic disease associated with pregnancy against the less than 2 fold risk with the pill. Yes I do recomend stopping after high risk procedures such as pelvic and orthopaedic surgery. However, most gynaecological pelvic surgery is on women who are either menopausal or having a hysterectomy. For minor and intermediate cases I follow the guidelines of the THRIFT study and the RCOG guidelines for thromboprophylaxis.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
