I am a french canadian and live in the province of Québec.

For many years there is a debate about the place of midwifes in the health system of the province of Québec. The opinion of the public, and particurlarly the opinion of the midwifes, is that the Association of Québec's Ob/Gyn is against the midwifes.

The true is that the ob/gyns are not against the midwifes but want some control about the midwife practice.

They want a program of formation (maybe an university program). They want control and supervision of the midwife practice by the "Conseil des médecins et dentistes" (equivalent to medical board) in each hospital.

They are afraid to have to take in charge some cases when the situation is overpassed and catastrophic and then to be subject of sues.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
