The Neos at our hospital are still advising the OBs to use ampicillin--clindomycin for those who are allergic. The antibiotics must be in at least 4 hours prior to delivery. If we do not follow their guidelines, the newborns get IV antibiotics and septic work-ups and are held in the NICU--even if ROM occurred 5 min. prior to delivery. This is particularly irritating when we have a parous patient who has a short labor and is unable to meet the 4 hr. requirement. Do any of you have similar protocols?

What dosage (and type) of Pcn are you using? I'd like to share this with the Neos.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
