Abdominoplasty with TAH

This is a good idea and I have had requests for it. However, abdominoplasty is not on my surgical privilege list and is not likely to ever get on the list unless I obtain special documented training in plastic surgery.

I could have my friendly plastic surgeon do the abdominoplasty when I do the TAH, but our HMOs, etc. do not consider an abdominoplasty a “medically necessary” procedure for the situation indicated. Thus, they will not give the necessary pre-authorization for such a combined procedure.

Most of my patients can not or do not want to pay a plastic surgeon the additional cost for an abdominoplasty at the time of their TAH.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
