The Le Leche League and their experts have a guideline. Their recommendation is that it is unwarranted to tell mothers this. Also, it may be harmful in that it interferes with the bonding of mother and infant, if in the first few days after birth or may result in quitting breastfeeding. It probably has more to do with Anesthesiologists concern of possible litigation if any infant has a subsequent problem.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
