Re: ovarian drilling for PCOSFrom: Paul Prior MD (pprior@fast.net)Sun Jun 7 18:24:35 1998
>IS infertility the only indication for Ov.drilling in patienrts with >PCO?Can you do it in patients wiht irregular periods only? >How many holes do you have to drill and is bleeding from the ovary a >problem? We are taught that androgen levels will return to "normal" (i.e. elevated) and ovulatory dysfunction return generally within 6mo to a year. Thus drilling has a short-term window for creating the ability to conceive, but as it treats a symptom and not the cause of the disease it will not generally produce long term results.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
