Geff, You are correct. I would only add that the patient needs to be well informed of developments all along the way. They must clearly see the need to perform the hysterectomy as a matter of life or death. Even then, the patient may need counseling in the aftermath of such an event ...if they are willing. In my work with our state maternal mortality committee, deaths due the complications of obstetrical hemorrhage seemed to be more common when interventions were delayed past about 3000 ml of blood loss. It was always a mystery to us how some physicians would ignore this kind of bleeding for so long.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
