A brief +AD4-obituary follows. +AD4- +AD4-Dan Van Dyke +AD4- +AD4-Dr. Lester Weiss, age 68, died peacefully at home on May 23, 1998. Dr. Weiss +AD4-had a powerful and positive influence on the provision of clinical genetics +AD4-services in Michigan. He earned is M.D. at Hahnemann Medical School, and was +AD4-a resident physician at St. Christopher Hospital in Philadelphia. He was +AD4-board certified in Pediatrics in 1962, and in Medical Genetics in 1982, and +AD4-he was a charter member of the American College of Medical Genetics. He +AD4-joined the staff of Henry Ford Hospital in 1966 and was appointed Chair of +AD4-the Department of Pediatrics in 1974. In 1980, he became the director of the +AD4-Medical Genetics and Birth Defects Center, which he developed into the +AD4-Department of Medical Genetics in 1996. The genetics program led by Dr. +AD4-Weiss was the largest in Michigan, and consistently provided the the most +AD4-up-to-date services to its patients. Dr. Weiss is the first physician to +AD4-have chaired two departments at Henry Ford Hospital. He pioneered the +AD4-concept of genetics field clinics, and thereby served patients throughout +AD4-southeastern Michigan with clinics in Bay City, Midland, Pontiac, Port +AD4-Huron, and Saginaw. +AD4- +AD4-His innovative telemedicine technology was featured by Time magazine in +AD4-1996. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
