There are standards for hospitals designated as trauma centers. I don't know who sets the standards. The one I saw (sorry, I don't remember the source) was 15 minutes for type specific blood and 30 minutes for cross-match, major Ab only. I remember those numbers because our hospital didn't qualify. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
