Chemoprophylaxis for Gbs infection...Is IM an appropriate option?

I am a student Midwife trying to find information about using IM chemoprophylaxis for the prevention of GBS infection in the neonate. I discovered some practices and hospitals using IM Ampicillin q 6 hours. what is your opinion about using IM? What is done outside the USA? Thank you for answering me. sandrine
