Amniocentesis in Twins!!From: Chas Dow, MD (CharlesD@ZiaNet.com)Thu Apr 23 21:14:33 1998
Dear Forum Members; My wife is carrying twins and is 39 years old and scheduled to undergo an amniocentesis soon - about 15 weeks. I am a Cardiac Surgeon with obviously little experience in this field. I have a few questions? Is it safe to instill dye in the amniotic sac to differentiate between sacs during the procedure? What is the best choice of dye? Is there any evidence to suggest that the dye may cause fetal problems or loss? Is selective reduction safe in the event that one fetus is affected with a chromosomal anomaly? We have tried many years for this pregnany and are obviously concerned. I appreciate your comments.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
