Re: A Poll,From: Philip Suarez (philip@icsi.net)Sun Apr 19 16:53:39 1998
-----Original Message----- From: Behalf Of Bernard Cristalli Sent: Sunday, April 19, 1998 2:54 PM To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: OB: A Poll, In France vaginal exams are an institution. It would be considered unethical to design a study to compare vaginal exam Vs no vaginal exam during pregnancy or delivery. These are my questions. 1. How many visits do you practice during a normal pregnancy? A routine, uncomplicated patient usually has ~ 10 - 14 visits, depending upon how early her prenatal care started 2. Do you perform a vaginal exam at each OB visit? NO NO NO!!! Early to get a good idea of dating, then ONLY if she has complaints of preterm or term labor or when she's at her EDC. I am concerned about preterm rupture of membranes with repeated exams. I get NOTHING from that exam so, like any medical procedure or lab study, if I am not going to change how I manage the patient, why do the "test?" 3. How do you control the evolution of a delivery? Vaginal exam or not? At which rythm? 41 weeks NST, late 41 weeks, nearly 42 weeks, induction of labor. Is that what you meant? Philip

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
