A recent article in the newspaper here by a women with AI was somewhat critical of how her situation was handled. She spoke of her doctors being evasive, embarassed, uninformed ,etc. etc. I believe all she had to say. However you handle it try not to fall into that trap. My training included a caveat that one doesn't tell the whole truth and it was based on one consultants experience with a patient who committed suicide. OK, you can argue which came first, the poor self identity or the knowledge she was XY, or just the common mood disorder that many people have. I think that health care and disclosure have done an abrupt face. This is probably the most challenging counselling situation we're going to run into but I think that she should be told the truth about her own biology. This could be a fun string. Allen.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
