Ethical issue with a Androgen insensitive XY personFrom: anil (anil@versaform.com)Thu Apr 16 14:00:17 1998
Recommendations requested: 24 yo female presents with a h/o "operation" in India for "bad ovaries" at age 16. No other medical information available except never menstrual. Currently married, sex active w/o problems. CC: Wishs to know why she had her ovaries removed and was born w/o a uterus. Exam c/w androgen insensitivity syndrome (well developed, no body hair, shortened but adequate vagina). U/S confirms no uterus, ova-testes. How far would you go in the work-up? Could present a major shock to be found XY, though always a woman.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
