I recall an explanation for the "unabsorbed cytotec pill" being due to the formulation of the active ingredient into a "matrix" that itself may not dissolve in the vagina, yet allowing the prostaglandin to be enlisted for active duty. BEWARE, the following is purely anecdotal: I selectively use prostin gel when dealing with "Bishop zero" and there is no clinical urgency/emergency. When I want some "punch" in the system, I choose cytotec tabs, especially when the cervix has already shown some readiness to go, ie, softer, patulous, mid or anterior. I continue to use prostin vag suppos for IUFD with better efficacy than colleagues using vag cytotec. FWIW

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
