It seems with serologic evidence of HPV infection in some 40% of most populations studied, that one would be doing thousands of unnecessary sections to prevent the extremely rare occurrence of vocal cord condylomata. The single case of vocal cord condylomata that I have seen in 30 years of obstetrics, or my wife in a similar pediatric experience, was in an infant delivered by Cesarean section with intact membranes, in an asymptomatic patient (probably a shedder). The Cesarean was for other reasons.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
