F/U on Continuous (convenience) OCs

I appreciated everyone's thoughts on reasons tradition persisted for cyclic OCs in healthy and well women.

I still pose the question, though, why we haven't encouraged the option in more, for both asymptomatic women (for convenience) and in mildly symptomatic women (dysmen, menorrhagia, "PMS" sx). I have found a high rate of acceptance for semi-continuous OCs (cycling q 3-4 mo) when both the safety of OCs is reviewed and the issue of BTB is covered. I also recommend for those accepting it to cycle if BTB persists or if other symptoms dictate.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
