Re: 15 y/o and the pillFrom: Geffrey H. Klein, MD (gklein@bcm.tmc.edu)Sat Mar 7 08:02:23 1998
On 3/7/98, R. Daniel Braun, M.D. wrote this: Q> Under Texas Law, the 15 y/o or any age female is capable of giving consent Q> for and obtaining any contraceptive with or without any parents consent. Who does the girl live with ??? Q> Dan The stepmother brought her specifically for oral contraceptives. I think she was concerned that she was going to become sexually active soon and wanted her to be protected. The girl stated that she did not intend to become sexually active soon. We talked about condoms and the non-contraceptive benefits of the pill. They presented themselves as capable to consent to this therapy. Update: Mom called me again after I posted to the list. She apparently has issues with the ex-husband. She said, "If he wants to give her permission to have sex, he has to pay for it himself and not use my insurance!" Of course, she also mentioned something about her lawyer... Not only does this woman have poor judgement about preventing teenage pregnancy, but she is using her child to get back at her ex. I am getting caught in the crossfire. ---------------------------------- Geffrey H. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
