<< My understanding (and I'm looking for support from those fifty-plus members of the list) is that the only reason we have a 21/28 regime for OCP is that 1950's women wouldn't accept amenorrhoea as proof of non- pregnancy, but rather they demanded regular 'menses' for reassurance, hence withdrawal bleed every month. This enforced bleed has been largely responsible for the failures of OCP over the years. >>

I hate to admit to being "fifty-plus", but I did take OC's in the early sixties. It was my understanding then, even as a lay person, that the withdrawal bleed was because we women had a psychological "need" to bleed monthly.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
