Doug: I too have seen marked variability of GnRH agonists in fibroid reduction, and I wish I understood "why"?? I recently had a 25 year old present with 24 week size fibroids. She was recently married and wished fertility preservation. The first dose of Lupron reduced her uterus to 16 week size in one month, the second to 8 week size when I did her myomectomy( removed 11 fibroids, the largest residual fibroid was 4 cm!!!) Initial size was documented by CT scan.

Re: morcellation , have performed 10 laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomies using the FemRx morcellator. This is a terrific instrument for removal of the fundus, irrespective of the size. Patient recovery is dramatic... discharge in less than 24 hours (most patients), half a dozen pain pills the next two days, and resumption most activties in less than a week ( blood loss almost nil or zero)

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
