Re: Savonarola

I'm afraid I've lost the thread of who called the first name, but FYI:

Fra Girolamo Savonarola was a 15th century Dominican brother who invented the charming custom of the "bonfire of vanities" by burning the "gegaws and wigs and rouge-pots" of the citizens of Florence, in order to purify their souls and prevent them from being distracted by the vanities of this world. Citizens who objected to having their finery barbecued referred to him affectionately as "the hound of the Lord"--a play on the name of the Dominicans (Domini Canes). (Source: George Eliot's "Romola")

Savonarola's enemies eventually had him condemned to a Trial by Fire. He lost, and was burned to death at the stake.

This is how the custom of "flaming" began--and a fitting end to any arrogant savant who treats the opinions of others with disrespect.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
