Re: Female CircomcisonFrom: Anna Nickels (annan@awhonn.org)Mon Feb 23 15:35:15 1998
Deborah, Sorry I'm entering the conversation a little late... daughter has a post-ACL reconstruction infection that may be the flesh-eating ickies and I'm "in the weeds". I wanted to send these references several times, but didn't have them at home. 1. JOGNN, Vol 20, #2, Mar/Apr 1991, Special Needs of Ritually Circumcised Women Patients, Hanny Lightfoot-Klein, MA & Evelyn Shaw, RN, MS. This article discusses urinary, gyn. and OB complications and includes a protocol recommended to avoid tearing that was written by a Sudanese physician. Include nursing implications and diagrams. 2. JOGNN, Vol. 27, #1, Jan/Feb 1998, Female Genital Mutilation: When a Cultural Practice Generates Clinical and Ethical Dilemmas, Anne M. Gibeau, CNM, MSN. Discusses health consequences and ethical aspects of care. AWHONN has been participating in meetings where this topic is being discussed from clinical, ethical, and cultural aspects. I hope this information helps. Your colleague, Anna Romig Nickels, RNC, BSN AWHONN Senior Practice Specialist Washington, DC annan@awhonn.org

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
