Re: 24hr in house MD (was Catastrophic VBAC's)From: DoctorJoe@aol.comSat Feb 14 12:31:53 1998
In a message dated 2/13/98 4:09:40 PM, you wrote: <<We have a new doctor who does not clamp the cord at either end first. He cuts and leaves both ends bleeding. We are concerned that the mother might bleed excessively, or it might harm the baby. >> I don't think that affects the mother at all, since it's the PLACENTA that's bleeding. In fact, if you bleed the placenta out, you might rationalize that it'll deliver quicker and be better for the mom. However, letting the kid bleed would scar me... Remember, Mother Nature lets the kid and placenta attached until the blood flow stops, right? So the baby isn't supposed to bleed. Joe P.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
