Notwithstanding our poor understanding about the exact etiology of pre-eclampsia, it is a disease that women most likely get either at fertilization or at implantation (vis-a-vis a poorly defined immunological process). It's not until later in pregnancy that the disease screams at the clinician loud enough for them to make the diagnosis. Either she has the disease now, or she doesn't. There is no "soon" about it.

I agree with Dr.Braun's excellent management plan. I would use misoprostol for induction. Additionally, if this is not p.e., and only chronic hypertension with a measure of renal failure: the management would be the same. She is term, so induce her labor. Continued gestation is of no benefit to either mom or the fetus. P.Peterman.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
