Re: OB:Prenatal RitualsFrom: Richard Lowensohn (lowensoh@ohsu.edu)Tue Dec 30 10:55:44 1997
The grey-hairs remember that tapes replaced calipers about when we started (they had both in my first clinics). Since calipers were worthless, I can understand why earlier doctors found no value in measurement. I measure the height except when I'm dealing with a very obese patient, where I use ultrasound to follow fetal growth. It may not be a great measurement, but it will show IUGR with oligohydramnios, which is the only one we can treat anyway, and will show polyhydramnios. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
