Your modem can only go as fast as your particular phone lines can handle. f\For instance, I recently installed a 56K Motorola modem and can only achieve 46000bps on my home lines. the only other exception is that if you were calling an exact modem as yours you might achieve faster speeds through compression techniques. Al in all the price of the 56K modems makes the move worth every penny. miller@txk.com

I don't know the answer to your question, but it's hardly suprising that US Robotics are telling you how much better it would be if you invested cash in one of theri gizmos:-)

My understanding is the limiting step is the modem speed at the other end of the connection. If your ISP server is slower than your super-fast one, there will be no improvement.
