Re: ENDO: GalactorrheaFrom: ATFSOCCER (ATFSOCCER@aol.com)Sat Dec 27 06:17:32 1997
In a message dated 97-12-23 23:57:51 EST, you write: << Prolactin level prior to exam, done in the PM, was 50, with the upper normal 25. Her TSH was normal. Breast exam was normal, galactorrhea demonstrated. Pituitary normal on MRI. What is the treatement? 1. Parlodel prn symptoms 2. No rx. 3. Other? Garry >> Garry, I would go with a diagnosis of galactotroph hyperplasia of the Pituitary provided she is not on any medications such as BCPs, psychotropics or others that might cause elevation of prolactin. If the galactorrhea is bothersome to her, then parlodel 2.5 q hs to start. There is also a new drug released recently called DOSTINEX (I believe) which acts the same as parlodel and can be taken twice a week. I would normally recheck the prolactin in 6 weeks then in 6 months. No more CAT scans unless prolactin above 100. Andy Folley MD FACOG Toledo OH

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
