In a message dated 97-12-25 10:56:48 EST, you write:

<< <menorragia: long lasting periods>>

"meno" denotes heavy

<<metrorragia: bleeding between periods>>

"metro" denotes time, as in length

<<menometrorragia: menorragia intermingled with metrorragia.>>

...implies long and heavy...

And then some people use "polymenorrhea" to mean TOO MANY periods. >>

Menorrhagia means long and heavy menses, perhaps 7 days of heavy bleeding. Metrorrhagia means multiple menses within a month, like 2 or 3 times.

Metromenorrhagia means getting one's mense more than once a month with heavy bleeding and for more than 7 days or so.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
