I liked Mefenamic Acid (Ponstan) very much until they took it off code, because for a plain pain killer it is quite expensive and not very effective. 500mg of Paracetamol cost us 1/3 cents (US).

However this is extremely shortsighted because we have many on Nur Esterate and Depo Provera which means we need several drugs to try and suppress the related bleeding...

The combination of Indomethacin and Tranexamic Acid works very well, where Tranexamic Acid is signifcantly expensive. If you add progesteron the price doubles and the toal is 10 times more expensive then Ponstan.

Mefenamic Acid is not in the same caterogy of NSAID as Indocid and Brufen.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
