Sam,

When I was a resident, an attending and another resident did a C/S on a patient with an 8 cm. fibroid above the incision anteriorly. Although it didn't interfere with the incision, they thought it would be a good opportunity to do a myomectomy.

Big mistake!

Despite the fact that it looked dry at closure, she became hypotensive with an expanding abdominal mass. She was brought back to to OR for evacuation of the expanding hematoma at the site of the myomectomy and after several units of blood, required a hysterectomy.

Thank G-d I wasn't the resident. This is my one and only horror case.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
