The woman was unmarried and having sex with a married guy with kids. He was basically carrying on with both women at the same time - near bigamist! She wanted a child by him but had fertility problems. Without telling him she went off and had ovulation induction and had inadequate monitoring. It was done in some shady private clinic. When she conceived 7 she was advised by her obstetrician to have embryo reduction. She then got referred to a rather non-media shy fetal medicine specialist in London, SE5. He not only told her a reduction was a good idea, he told the media he'd told her, he also told her that if she didn't stop courting the tabloid press he wouldn't continue to look after her! She had a deal with the tabloids for her story which was (depending on what you read) either a lump sum for giving birht to all of them (nothing for less) or a per capita/sliding scale. There was also talk of her suing the clinic that superovulated her. It ended very sadly within two weeks of the story breaking, with her aborting all the fetuses. Story disappeared without trace. The UK version of the septuplet race had more spice than the US version, anyway! Malcolm Griffiths MD,MRCOG,MFFP,Cert.Mgmnt Obstetrician & Gynaecologist Luton & Dunstable Hosp.,UK. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
