A 27 year old women complaining of abdominal pain has a transvaginal ultrasound scan. This shows a circular, bright, echogenic area in the right ovary 1.5 X 1.5 cm. The size of the ovary is normal. Both ovaries show small peripheral follicles consistent with polycystic ovary syndrome. No other abnormality on scan. The appearance of the ovary has persisted on a second scan 6 months later. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
