<< I hesitate to post this, but I think we had a case last year of congenital rubella syndrome in a patient who receive the vaccine in the first week of pregnancy. >>

Rick: When this issue last came up in our clinic, I reviewed the data with the CDC who was keeping a registry. Although they had, at the time, >300 cases, none had stigmata consistent with congenital rubella syndrome (some of the products of conception, from abortus specimens also studied, did show presence of the virus).

You should send along the details of the case to the CDC. (Sorry, I'm out of town and don't have access to my "rubella" file or I'd include the direct phone #.)

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
